PC applications may show the error message “Unsupported media format AMBE_VRP” when trying to play/monitor recordings that use the AMBE codec.
The problem is likely due to incorrect installation of the AMBE decoder on the PC.
Total Recall VR applications require a working USB based AMBE decoder in order play recordings that use the AMBE codec. If the AMBE decoder is not recognised by Windows then the PC applications will not be able to detect it and use it.
Please follow the following procedure to install the AMBE decoder USB device:
- Exit all Total Recall VR PC applications, if any are running.
- Disconnect all USB based AMBE decoder devices from the PC.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the FTDI D2XX drivers (version 2.10.00, or better). You can download an installation file for the drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm or simply use the installation file supplied on the disc that came with your Total Recall VR system.
- Restart Windows.
- Attach an AMBE USB device to the PC. Windows will report that a new USB device was detected and it will install the drivers for it. Then it will report that the USB device is ready to use. If Windows reports an error about the USB device, then please talk to your IT support staff to get the drivers and the device working on the PC before using it with Total Recall VR PC applications.
- If the device is working, then run the Total Recall VR PC application and you should be able to play/monitor recordings that use the AMBE codec.
Total Recall VR PC applications report the availability of AMBE decoders in their log files every time they start. The following line appears if the applications detect a working AMBE decoder:
USB3K native bridge initialised - AMBE rate 34 decoder available
However, the following line appears in the log otherwise:
AMBE rate 34 decoder not available: No USB-3000 devices detected
