We are often asked about the best analogue signal levels for recording on analogue channels. And typically we say that the input signal levels should be between -20dBu and -10dBu (or 219mVp-p and 693mVp-p).
The analogue interface is designed to work with signal levels between -40dBu and -10dBu.
As a result to trigger recording on a channel when the channel recording trigger is set to the most sensitive VoX mode (VoX 6) the signal level must exceed -40dBu (or 22mVp-p).
Also, signal clipping of the signal will occur if the signal level is above -10dBu (or above 700mVp-p). Signal clipping is undesirable as it has impact on the quality of the recording.
Note that Total Recall VR does not adjust the input level of the signal. This is deliberate and by design. The only exception is when it detects clipping, and if it does it will try and reduce the level to about -10dBu.
